The exotic and sensual art of belly dancing is an integral part of the soft under belly of the Ironfest.
And this year being the year of 'promise' we will be showing even more
in the inaugural Ironfest Belly Dance Soiree.
More than a space, we will be dedicating a whole new region
on the Silk Road to the Kingdom of Ironfest.
Hosted by local dance troupe,
Belly D, our Soiree will involve a large dance area and sound system for the girls
to demonstrate their skills and passion over 3 whole days.
Based in Lithgow and directed by Lisa Inwood, and Heather Charlton, the Belly D name comes from the word Baladi, which means to tell a story through music. The group of girls & women have been together now for over four years and have now shimmied up nearly thirty performances under their coin belts. They are becoming well known within the Western region, from Blackheath to Rylstone. With each performance the girls blossom a little more and derive great pleasure in sharing their joy with their audiences. The girls strive to bring a celebration of life to all they endeavour.

We have been dancing together for nearly a decade and have performed at various festivals such as Ironfest, Mid-Winter Fesitval in Katoomba, as well as the Sydney Middle Eastern Dance Festival. The troupe was founded by Cathie Gorman and continued by Clare Macintosh under the direction of Karen Macauley and Louise Pratt.
We attend classes each Thursday during school term at the Springwood Civic Centre where we learn in a supportive and caring environment.we have a passion for the dance and the music but more importantly we have a great deal of fun so come and enjoy the flavour of the middle east with us, Zaghareet.
